American-born Nigerian boy tries to greet Olu of Warri with handshake (Video)
A Nigerian boy born in the United States recently had the opportunity to meet the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III, for the first time.
A video from the the meeting which happened at the airport has gone viral owing to how the teenage boy tried to greet the monarch.
The moment Atuwase arrived at the airport and was walking into the lobby, a man took the teenager to introduce him.
They knelt down and greeted the traditional ruler, however, after he told them to stand up, the boy stretched his hand to give the Olu of Warri a handshake but the older man with him immediately asked him to drop his hand.
According to culture and tradition, it is inappropriate for anyone outside of the royal family to either hug or give a handshake to the traditional ruler.
The monarch casually laughed at the boy’s ignorance regarding how tradition works and continued the conversation.
