Admitting to committing the crime, Happy told the court that the old woman bewitched her, slowed down her academic progress and caused her sickness on several occasions.

A 15-year-old girl, Happy David, has confessed to beating an 85-year-old woman, Gama Jatau, to death in Tambo village, Adamawa State.

The suspect made the confession when she was arraigned before a Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Yola, the state capital.

It was gathered that the unfortunate incident occurred on April 8, 2022. According to reports, the suspect had stormed the deceased’s house at about 1 pm and repeatedly used a stick to hit her on the head after accusing her of being a witch.

The victim was later rushed to hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The suspect who lives in the same neighbourhood as the aged woman said she chose the act to teach the woman a lesson.
