92-Yr-Old Calls Cops on Thief—He’s Left Sobbing When They Make an Alarming Discovery Inside

Ninety-two-year-old WWII veteran Louis C. Hicks is a humble gentleman living on a modest budget. Though he’s been struggling to make ends meet for years, he’s never once thought to inconvenience others by asking for help.

But his circumstances unexpectedly took a turn for the better when the Austin Police Department entered his home. Hicks found out that his power tools were missing from his shed, so he called 911 to report the robbery.

Little did he know, Officer Chasity Salazar would do so much more for this sweet elderly man than investigate the theft of his stolen shed tools.

When Officer Salazar arrived on the scene, she asked to take a peek around Hicks’ home. It didn’t take the experienced cop long to realize that the man was living in a hazardous environment.

Hicks assumed Officer Salazar was finished with her detective work upon leaving his home, but this big-hearted officer was just getting started on her mission to help the heroic vet who had served his country so selflessly.

Though Hicks left his needs unspoken, Officer Salazar knew she couldn’t leave this case without taking action. With the help of Austin Cops 4 Charities, St. David’s Foundation, and the Austin Police Association, she was able to obtain a brand new electric heater for Hicks for free.

The 92-year-old man was brought to tears when Officer Salazar later arrived with a fellow colleague to hand-deliver the unexpected gift. Hardly able to speak as he choked back sobs of joy, Hicks told KVUE, “I’ve never had no one [sic] to do nothing for me. After my mother passed away and left me to take care of my two sisters, nobody never did nothing [sic] to help me. You hate to ask anybody ’cause sometimes they’ll frown on you, and I’m a true veteran. I won’t ask. I won’t ask.”

As for Officer Salazar, she couldn’t be happier to be given the opportunity to bless this deserving man:

“He’s just offered me a lot of kindness, too, so to know that he’s also served, and now I’m able to serve and give back to people like him.

The Austin PD has now created a wishlist including all of Hicks’ needs including pants, shirts, underwear, and more. Since his story has made its way around the community, many others have rallied around him in support, and he is eternally grateful for their generous hearts and God’s provision:

“It means everything,” said Hicks. “The things I’ve been trying to do since the ’40s…I’ve been asking for help. And now, it just came in. God is good.”
