5 yrs Black Girl Asked a Police Officer, “Are You Gonna Shoot Us?” This is what he said as he knelt
“Hundreds of thousands of Americans continue to march in protest of police brutality and George Floyd’s tragic death. Many believe that the country is in the midst of a modern civil rights movement. However, even after such incidents, there are situations where police officers may face negative perceptions.
This exchange between a young girl and a police officer exemplifies the complex feelings people have about law enforcement. A five-year-old girl named Simone Bharti expressed her fear for her family’s safety during a peace demonstration. She asked the policeman, ‘Are you going to shoot us?’
In response, the police officer, wearing full riot gear, knelt down beside Simone, put his arm around her, and offered reassurance. Simone Bharti, who was just five years old, had started crying during the peaceful march in Owerson, Texas. Her mother posted a video online capturing this heartwarming interaction.
In the video, the police officer can be seen hugging the little girl and saying, ‘We’re here to protect you, okay? We don’t want to hurt you in any way. You can protest, have a party, or do anything else; just don’t mess anything up.’ In response, innocent Simone nods.
In a time when people and soldiers are engaged in various conflicts, such heartwarming interactions serve as a beacon of hope. While systemic racism remains a critical issue in the U.S., it’s important to remember that there are individuals in every service, including the police, who are genuinely committed to doing their jobs.
