Growing up, I learned about a tradition in my culture that affects girls like me the only child of their parents. In our customs, a girl who has no siblings isn’t allowed to marry.

Instead, she must stay in her parents’ home and have children to carry on their family line. I had no idea this tradition existed until the day came when I was expected to follow it.
