Attacks On Late Sylvester, Don Davis, Others: Should Fed Govt Close All Boarding Schools In Nigeria?

In recent time, the stories of attacks on school children, especially those around 11 and 12 years of age, is not a good one. In January this year (2021), the story of how Don Davis, an 11-years-old boy was allegedly maltreated by his senior colleagues in a Deeper Life High School, Uyo Akwa Ibom State came to Nigerians as a rude shock.

Up till today, Don Davis’ Parents are still seeking justice for their child in court. Don Davis who’s before-photo shows how chubby he was before joining the school, does not only appear like a dried bone after the attacks but equally ended up in a hospital bed, where he was rescued from the sickness he got as a result of the deadly attacks from yet-to-be known persons in the school.

Also, at the middle of this week, a similar story came in from Lagos. This time around, the victim could not make it alive. The 12-years-old Sylvester Oromoni Junior who was allegedly attacked by his seniors in Dowen College, a boarding school located at the Lekki area of the state, gave up the ghost in a hospital where he was taken to, from the school after he slept into unconsciousness as a result of the attack.

Just as it is in the case of Don Davis who allegedly told his parents that it was his senior colleagues who abused him in the school, the father of the late Sylvester has equally revealed in a video that his son told them (the parents) before he died, that he was attacked by about five of his senior colleagues in the school.

These are among the few cases of abused recorded in boarding schools lately against minors. In some of these instances, the school managements seemed not to be aware of such situations until it gets to the public notice.

It is on this ground that I bet to asked if the Federal Government should be asked to, indefinitely, shut down all boarding schools in Nigeria, to prevent future or further reoccurrence of the deadly and ugly attacks on innocent school children.

Hit the comment box below and tell us if the government should step into the matter and close all boarding schools in Nigeria. Thanks for staying with us!

  • Government has never made example of anyone that is why it is continuing. Closing down boarding school is not the solution. Deter others by meting out punishment that would have everlasting impact on perpetrators. If anyone ever tries this with my child I will fight both you and your parents until you regret ever been born. I wouldn’t come on air but would so destroy you and all you trust that you wish you were not born. It’s an eye for an eye for me.

  • This maltreatment of Junior students by senior students in almost all boarding schools so government should do something about it.

  • In Kenya today, the debate on losing boarding schools is on. I am a mother of a victim who has been molested by both teachers and students. My 1st grandchild has been labelled a Lesbian. When she talks to fellow students they shun her. She is Depressed and cannot sleep nor eat because of the isolation. The child has lost 50% of her normal body weight.
Teachers are meant to train and mentor students not to torture them. What happens to teachers? What happens to our children once they go to boarding schools some children and teachers are agents of Satan and they are seen as disciplinarian but not so from what I have been through

  • Government should help our fellow student to stop bulling at school because it may resolve to indicine act of every senior student ….. Now you have see that late Sylvester Oronomoni has not see this December and as well now he needs a good justice

  • Truly the parents of those children are suppose to take action, but if action is not taking by them teachers & student s of those school will not understand what they do by taking the life of a child, similar thing happened to my boy at the same boarding school but how my own happen is between my boy & teacher, it was the day of exam the boy was running climbing step , on his way of making late for the exam he pass a teacher without notice her the teacher call him back started nocking him phone on the head the thing pained him he removed his head phone fail on the ground & damaged the teacher claiming for new phone , I got an information on that I went to the principal for case how I reacted push the school authority to order the teacher not to disturb the boy again or else she will be hand over to me , cause I don’t smile, even one of the senior student punish my boy he told me that during the time he comes home for midterm brake on the day he went back to school I ask him to show me the person how I handle him make all the student beging to fear my boy, so you may even not to acting like me but remember that Bible says that no sinner will go on punished thank you & God bless you
