Some moments ago, a renowned Nigerian political commentator and staunch supporter of Yahaya Bello’s presidential ambition, Zara Onyinye took to her Facebook handle to respond to the ongoing protest by Nigerian students over ASUU strike and a statement that was made by Peter Obi.
It was earlier reported that students of the University of Benin, Edo State on Wednesday protested, causing gridlock on the ever busy Benin-Lagos expressway over the ongoing strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities. It was also noted that they blocked the campus entrance, chanting solidarity songs and holding placards with inscriptions like “FG settle ASUU”, “Enough is Enough”, ” End ASUU strike “, etc.
Amidst the strike, a presidential aspirant on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi on Wednesday during an interview with popular Television Station, Berekete Family responded to question from a student concerning the strike.
Peter Obi said he found it disheartening that the noise of the 2023 election is dominating the space rather than the plight of Nigerian students westing at home. He also explained that the money collected for forms from presidential aspirants would have been enough to meet the demands of ASUU.
Reacting to Peter Obi’s statement concerning the strike, Zara Onyinye on her Facebook page disclosed that Anambra State University embarked on a 6 months strike during Peter Obi’s tenure.
According to Zara, she said ” Anambra State University was on strike for 6 months when former governor Peter Obi was in charge. ASUU strike didn’t start now”
