Two men who belonged to a syndicate that specialised in killing people for ritual purposes have been arrested by operatives of the Kwara State Police Command, the command announced on Monday, September 20.





One of the arrested men was said to have confessed that he sold one of the hands of a girl they killed for N20,000 while the other person said he used the second hand to make soap.

The two men, whose names were given as Femi Adeniji and Abdulmalik Wale Shittu, were arrested after killing the girl at Offa town in the state. The girl was sent on an errand by her father to buy what is commonly known in Yoruba as Kulikuli which they intended to use to drink gari.



It was gathered that following the inability of the father to see his daughter whom he sent on the errand, he reported a case of missing person at the Offa Divisional Police Headquarters and the police began investigation.




According to a statement by the state police command through its Public Relations Officer, Ajayi Okasanmi, sent to my mailbox, the body of the girl was found with her head and two hands missing at an uncompleted building in the Amuyo area of Offa after days of investigation.



The body was eventually identified by the father to be that of his missing daughter.

The statement said following intelligence gathering, Femi Adeniji, who was living in the same area, was arrested and he confessed to be in possession of the head and one of the hands of the girl. He added that he sold the hand to a buyer, who is presently at large, for the sum of N20,000.




Following the arrest and interrogation of Adeniji, he named Abdulmalik Wale Shittu as another member of the syndicate and led police operatives to his house. Shittu was promptly arrested and during interrogation, he was said to have confessed using the second hand of the girl for money-making soap.



According to the statement: “The Kwara State Police command wishes to call the attention of parents and guardians to the rising cases of ritual killings for money-making purposes.


“One of such killings was recorded when one girl, Rianat Yusuf, of Amuyo area, Offa, Kwara State, left her home on errand to buy Kulikuli which was to be used to drink gari and did not return home.



“A case of a missing person was reported at Offa Divisional Police Headquarters by her father, Yusuf Taofeek.

“Investigation, however, led to the discovery of the body of a girl with her head and two hands missing at an uncompleted building at Amuyo area, Offa. The body was later identified by the father to be that of his missing daughter.



“In the course of investigation, one Femi Adeniji of the same area was arrested and he confessed to be in possession of the head and one of the hands of the girl, adding that he had sold the hand to a buyer, who is presently at large, for the sum of N20,000.

“Another arrested suspect, Abdulmalik Wale Shittu, of Imam compound, Offa, who was arrested when Adeniji led operatives to his house, also confessed to have used the second hand of the girl for money-making soap.

“Investigation into the matter is ongoing while the men will be charged to court at the conclusion of the investigation.”
