Anthony Joshua today, Saturday, December 12, 2019, redeemed himself by defeating Andy Ruiz. Jr in the boxing heavyweight match in Saudi Arabia.
The British-Nigerian started the bout with high energy as he gave his opponent a bloody cut in the first round. From then on Anthony Joshua was dominant enough to be declared the winner.
Joshua has now taken back the WBA (Super), IBF, WBO and IBO heavyweight titles which he lost to Ruiz on June 1, 2019, at Madison Square Garden in New York.
Second time around, a more composed and disciplined Joshua, for the most part, resisted the urge to join Ruiz in battle, and there was no doubt as to the clear winner once the bell ended the final round.
Confirmation of Joshua’s win was greeted with roars of approval from a capacity 16,000 crowd in the purpose-built venue in the ancient Saudi capital, which was hosting a major title fight for the first time.
With his victory, Joshua has joined greats such as Muhammad Ali, Lennox Lewis and Evander Holyfield on the list of heavyweights to reclaim world titles
The Telegraph described Ruiz’s victory earlier in the year as “one of the biggest upsets in boxing history.”
